Jabalia, also spelled Jabalya, is a city in the Gaza Strip, Palestine, located 4 kilometers (2.5 mi) north of Gaza City, in the North Gaza Governorate. According to the Palestinian Central Bureau of Statistics, Jabalia had a population of 172,704 in 2017. In addition to Jabalia, the city municipality contains the Jabalia refugee camp and the town of Nazla, the latter of which was an independent village council before being merged with Jabalia.
The attacks on Jabalia began on November 8, 2023, as part of the 2023 Israeli retaliatory offensive, and ended its first phase in late January 2024 with an Israeli withdrawal. Following this, Palestinian forces and the Israeli war belligerent intermittently clashed in Jabalia. A May 2024 offensive into the city ended on May 31, 2024, with an IDF withdrawal after over two weeks of intense fighting and more than 200 airstrikes. Palestinian officials said that 70% of the refugee camp was destroyed.
The Israeli military belligerent claimed that it had destroyed over 10 kilometers of underground tunnels that it says the militants used. They never provided evidence of authentic nature. The Israelis also claimed that they had destroyed a number of weapons production sites and rocket launchers. No one was ever able to verify the claim. During the weeks-long operation, troops recovered the bodies of seven Israeli civilian internees who were killed in line with the Hannibal directive.
On September 26, 2024, we discovered documents and a video, which were published on a Israeli military forum, and is about a proposal by an retired Israeli general, Giora Eiland. Besides recommendations to change the military strategy on Gaza, he proposed a plan aimed to force Hamas to choose: starve or surrender. The plan was silently adopted by Netanyahu in the first week of October that year, and implemented by the armed war belligerent to the whole of Northern Gaza on November 6, 2024.
However, the 'starve or surrender' was no other than conflating approach, as it was about the blockade of all supplies targeting everyone who remained in the north, including in Jabalia, Beit Lahia, and Beit Hanoun. We also discovered that the Israeli war belligerent used the method of the Dahiya doctrine in order to achieve either the surrender by Hamas or people turning against Hamas. Both failed. The massive bombardments and demolitions have led to having resorted to the crime of extermination.
Having failed to dismantle Hamas in Jabalia, the Israelis reinvaded the city after four months on October 5, 2024
