Sabra was a neighborhood district in western Gaza City. It was established during the British Mandatory Palestine period. It contained the city's municipal mark, built in the 1930s south of Omar Mukhtar Street.
On November 26, 2020, the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) inaugurated Al-Sabra Health Center in Gaza City, with funding from the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. UNRWA Commissioner-General Philippe Lazzarini said that UNRWA was able to build Al-Sabra Health Center with generous funding from the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia through the Saudi Fund for Development, as part of an agreement worth $ 31 million, which was signed in November 2018.
During the Gaza war (2023–present), Israeli troops carried out attacks on the neighborhood. According to Reuters, at least 10-12 Palestinians were reported killed in the area, with the IOF stating the strikes targeted "militant infrastructure."
Since August 21, 2025, Sabra is part of the Israeli siege to "occupy" Gaza City while automatically taking Northern Gaza.
