Beit Lahia or Beit Lahiya was a city, north of Jabalia, in the North Gaza Governorate of the State of Palestine. It was located next to Beit Hanoun and close to the border with colonized historic Palestine. According to the Palestinian Central Bureau of Statistics, the city had a population of 89,838 in 2017
In December 2023, the Israeli war belligerents began their offensive in Beit Lahia. Israeli warplanes launched airstrikes on "targets Hamas militants". Though they launched several assaults on the city, the war belligerent did not fully occupy Beit Lahia. Rather, they had encircled the town and occupied the surrounding villages and farmland.
In January 2024, the Israelis withdrew from the majority of North Gaza, and a ground connection between Palestinian-controlled Gaza City was re-established. Around this time, the Gaza Soup Kitchen was established in Beit Lahia to provide food to Palestinians at risk of famine.
In April 2024, the Israeli troops withdrew all territories in the Gaza Strip except for the Netzarim Corridor, returning the northern villages such as As-Siafa back to Palestinian control until the second Israeli invasion of northern Gaza in May 2024 as a result of Hamas regrouping in some areas there. By June 2024, Gaza's Civil Defence stated the destruction in Beit Lahia "defies imagination". On October 29, 2024, nearly 100 civilians, including over 20 children, were killed in a bombing of a five-story building by Israeli Forces. The Gaza Health Ministry reported over 90 casualties, including 25 children, with numerous individuals trapped under the rubble.
On September 26, 2024, we discovered documents and a video, which were published on a Israeli miltary forum, and is about a proposal by an retired Israeli general, Giora Eiland. Besides recommendations to change the military strategy on Gaza, he proposed a plan aimed to force Hamas to choose: starve or surrender. The plan was silently adopted by Netanyahu in the first week of October that year, and implemented by the armed war belligerent to the whole of Northern Gaza on November 6, 2024.
However, the 'starve or surrender' was no other than conflating approach, as it was about the blockade of all supplies targeting everyone who remained in the north, including in Jabalia, Beit Lahia, and Beit Hanoun. We also discovered that the Israeli war belligerent used the method of the Dahiya doctrine in order to achieve either the surrender by Hamas or people turning against Hamas. Both failed. The massive bombardments and demolitions have led to having resorted to the crime of extermination.
